• Perodox® TAHP - Tert-Amyl hydroperoxide

    CAS: 3425-61-4 | TAHP

Perodox TAHP is an initiator (85% active ingredient in water) for (co) polymerization of styrene.

  • Product Overview

Perodox TAHP is widely used as a free-radical initiator and oxidizing agent due to its balanced reactivity and stability. Major applications include:

    • Polymerization Initiator
    • Oxidative Desulfurization (ODS)
    • Hair Care
    • Pharmaceuticals/Agrochemicals

    CAS Number:3425-61-4

    TSCA Status:Listed on inventory

    EINECS/ELINCS No.:222-321-7

    Molecular Weight:104.1

  • Applications

Perodox® MEKP is widely used in various industries for resin curing and composite manufacturing

    Polymerization Initiator

TAHP is widely used as a free radical initiator for emulsion polymerization, aqueous-phase polymerization, curing, and graft polymerization processes. It offers advantages over alternatives like persulfates, cumene hydroperoxide, and benzoyl peroxide due to its stability and non-corrosive decomposition products (tert-amyl alcohol and acetone)

    Specific Polymerization Applications

Production of styrene and its copolymers (SAN, ABS)

Polymerization of acrylic and methacrylic compounds

    Vinyl chloride polymerization

Preparation of low-dielectric high-strength resin compounds, prepregs and laminates

    Oxidative Desulfurization

Used as an oxidant in desulfurization processes for diesel oil and heavy oils. Research shows TAHP can achieve up to 96.8% sulfur removal from coking diesel oil under optimized conditions (90°C, 2.5 hours, molar ratio 4)

    Chemical Synthesis

Important intermediate in organic synthesis and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Its decomposition results in tert-amyl alcohol and small amounts of acetone, which are non-corrosive and cause less equipment wear compared to acidic by-products from other initiators.
